What verification is, how the selfie check works, and what happens to the photo.

Getting the blue check

Verification confirms that the person in your photos is the person using the account. Verified accounts show a blue check on their profile.

What you need first

At least one profile photo. The check compares a live selfie against the photos already on your profile, so there has to be something to compare against.

How it works

  1. Take a selfie. The camera shows a pose to match.
  2. We compare. Your selfie is checked against your profile photos automatically.
  3. The check appears on your profile if they match.

What happens to the selfie

It is deleted straight after the check. It is not added to your profile, not shown to anyone, and not kept once the comparison is done.

If it fails

You can try again. Common causes are poor light, a face partly covered, or profile photos that do not clearly show your face. Adding a clearer profile photo first usually fixes it.
